Our SVdP members extend heartfelt thanks to all parishioners who supported this year’s “Walk for the Poor.” Through your generosity, we raised $2,565, which will help local families with food, rental assistance, and utility needs. We are also grateful to the 23 walkers, including Father Luke and Deacon Marty, who joined us on a beautiful Saturday morning. Your presence, conversations, and spirit of community made the event a true success. Thank you for your kindness and for walking in solidarity with our neighbors in need.
Helping the forgotten, the suffering and others in need among us in Castro Valley.

- A sick person who can’t afford all of their medicine and who needs a Clipper card to get to medical or dental appointments.

How do we serve the needy in Castro Valley?
- We provide grocery vouchers for food.
- We distribute Clipper Cards for use on BART, Alameda County Transit and other public transit agencies.
- We occasionally provide other assistance, such as help with furniture or rent, as resources allow.
- We refer the homeless to county and non-profit homeless providers. For more information about Alameda County housing resources, call 211.

How does St. Vincent de Paul get funds?
- Most of our funds come from fifth Sunday collections at Transfiguration Church. The funds from this collection have been used to provide assistance to the local needy described above.
- Grants and fundraisers such as the Walk for the Poor and Bingo Night.

- To become a member of Transfiguration SVdP, contact Mike Dresen at svdp@transfigcv.org. Meetings are held the 3rd Sunday of each month at 10:00 a.m. in the Church Hall or Rectory. The meetings are held in person and by video conferencing.
Who Was St. Vincent de Paul?
St. Vincent de Paul was a 17th century Catholic priest renowned for his compassion for those in need. The International Society of St. Vincent de Paul was founded in Paris in 1833 by Frederic Ozanam. Challenged to “practice what they preach,” Frederic and a group of likeminded companions sought out the poor in Paris and brought them food and clothing. Similar groups began forming throughout the world, including the United States.
